Resumo

Nesse artigo apresentamos os principais índices utilizados na descrição de dietas e estudos dos hábitos alimentares de carnívoros, discutindo o que estes índices nos dizem e quais são seus principais vieses. Fizemos isso a partir da apresentação da dieta de um carnívoro hipotético, de forma a ilustrar como, a partir de um mesmo conjunto de dados, é possível chegar a conclusões totalmente diferentes, dependendo dos índices utilizados. Apresentamos ainda algumas considerações sobre análises ecológicas recorrentes nos estudos de dieta e finalizamos com uma proposta de protocolo mínimo para descrição da dieta de carnívoros (e outros táxons de animais predadores) em estudos futuros.
