Resumo

Desde 1984, o Laboratório de Biologia e Parasitologia de Mamíferos Silvestres Reservatórios (LABPMR) vem estabelecendo uma coleção científica, visando realizar estudos sobre taxonomia, biogeografia e ecologia de mamíferos no Brasil, e compreender sua participação em ciclos de transmissão de agentes causadores de zoonoses. Neste contexto, o LABPMR atua também como laboratório de referência para o Ministério da Saúde, fornecendo certificados de identificação taxonômica de espécies envolvidas nos ciclos de transmissão, baseados em taxonomia integrativa (análises morfológicas/morfométricas, cariotípicas e moleculares). O objetivo deste trabalho foi apresentar a Coleção de Mamíferos do LABPMR, incluindo sua abrangência taxonômica e geográfica e um histórico de pesquisas realizadas. Ao longo dos anos, coletamos cerca de 18000 espécimes em todos os biomas e regiões do Brasil, grande parte depositados na própria coleção do LABPMR. A coleção é constituída majoritariamente pelas ordens Rodentia e Didelphimorphia, mas Carnivora, Chiroptera, Cingulata, Lagomorpha e Primates também estão representadas. O acervo é composto por peles e esqueletos e espécimes em meio líquido (11.818 espécimes), tecidos (12000 amostras) e células em suspensão (4000 amostras). Nosso banco de dados conta ainda com informações dos agentes zoonóticos associados a estes espécimes. A partir de estudos taxonômicos, biogeográficos e das relações parasito-hospedeiro, a coleção foi estabelecida e fomentou estudos sobre mamíferos hospedeiros de Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania spp., Orthohantavírus, Mammarenavírus, Schistosoma mansoni e bactérias multi-hospedeiras. Dados gerados possibilitaram a solução de questões complexas no estudo de zoonoses e serviram como subsídio para políticas em saúde pública e vigilância ecoepidemiológica de zoonoses em diversas regiões do Brasil.
