About the Journal

The Brazilian Journal of Mammalogy (BJM) is a journal of the Sociedade Brasileira de Mastozoologia (SBMz) where peer-reviewed articles, notes and essays on topics related to Neotropical mammals are published. Abstracts from thesis, dissertation or course conclusion already defended/presented may also be submitted for publication. Manuscripts in Portuguese, Spanish and English are accepted.

The SBMz is a non-profit scientific society, created in 1985, with the mission of bringing together, organizing and supporting professionals, scientists and students who work or are concerned with themes related to research and conservation of mammals. It is part of the Rede Latino-Americana de Mastozoologia (RELAM), which brings together researchers from 12 Latin American countries and the forum of the International Federation of Mammalogists (IFM), in addition to cooperating with the Sociedade Brasileira de Zoologia and the Sociedade Brasileira para o Estudo de Quirópteros.

The Brazilian Journal of Mammalogy (BJM) is a brazilian journal of continuous publication, with annual volumes, dedicated to knowledge about mammals from the Neotropical region. It publishes original results on all subjects related to systematics, biology, ecology, and conservation of extant and fossil mammals.

FREQUENCY AND ACCESS

The Brazilian Journal of Mammalogy (BJM) is a continuous publication of the Sociedade Brasileira de Mastozoologia (SBMz), with annual issues and special issues. The printed version is distributed to members who choose to receive it, with pictures in black and white, and an online version, with all images in the original colors, is made available to all SBMz members and authors. Supplemental online material is available for members on the SBMz website (https://sbmz.org/publicacoes/).

PEER EVALUATION PROCESS

The evaluation is peer-reviewed, in a double-blind process. Submission is done through the associate editors, after analysis by the journal's editors.

JOURNAL HISTORY

The journal was created in 1985 as an Information Bulletin for members of the Sociedade Brasileira de Mastozoologia (SBMz). In November 1990, (Nº 14) the submission rules were released for the first time. In 2004 it was renamed as Boletim da Sociedade Brasileira de Mastozoologia and assigned an ISSN. Since 2013, with the Nº 66, the current format was adopted, with a colored cover and the sections currently set. A full editorial board was composed. Submission rules have been defined and standardized since then, with the double-blind system for evaluation. Since 2015 special issues are published every year.
