Abstract

In this contribution, I discuss the taxonomic identity of “Andira aca”, the only bat mentioned by Georges Marcgrave in his work Historia Naturalis Brasilisae (1648). Based on the few mentioned characters, I suggest it to be a frugivorous bat of family Phyllostomidae, subfamily Stenodermatinae, possibly Artibeus sp. A brief review of the reports of bat roosts made by other naturalists in Brazil is made.
