Zoological collections are institutions that bear material records to biodiversity, providing support for scientific development and innovation in various areas of knowledge, which are often only possible due to the existence of these collections. The Mammal Collection of the Universidade Federal de Lavras (CMUFLA) was created in 2004, covering mainly bat species from Minas Gerais state, Brazil. With the contribution of several scientific projects and the growing demand for receiving material from environmental reports, there was a significant increase in the collection with the inclusion of specimens from various regions of Brazil. With this, CMUFLA became an important center for the promotion and support of research activities on biology, ecology, natural history, and genetics of mammals with the specimens deposited in its collection. The CMUFLA currently houses 4,709 cataloged specimens representing 213 species, 111 genera, and 8 orders. The CMUFLA also houses the paratypes of Thyroptera wynneae, the holotype of Eumops chimaera, and the holotype and paratype of Cynomops freemani.
