Invasão biológica da espécie exótica Oryctolagus cuniculus Linnaeus, 1758 (Lagomorpha, Leporidae) na Mata Atlântica brasileira?

Lagomorpha é uma ordem de mamíferos amigáveis com duas famílias, Leporidae e Ochotonidae. Dentro dos Leporidae, Oryctolagus (coelho-europeu) apresenta distribuição quase mundial, com introdução em vários países. Pouco se sabe sobre Oryctolagus cuniculus no Brasil, provavelmente devido à sua semelhança com espécies de Sylvilagus naturais das Américas. A presença do exemplar aqui relatado na Mata Atlântica brasileira pode ser consequência de uma expansão da população chilena e argentina em direção à Mata Atlântica brasileira, ou de uma nova soltura. Este resultado mostra a necessidade de monitorar esta espécie exótica com potencial para se tornar uma invasora, conforme relatado no Chile.
